Sand Algarve: Vila Real d.S.A.
Vila Real de Santo António is the most eastern city of the Algarve, situated on the banks of the Guadiana river, the border to Spain. The so called "Sand Algarve" starts at the estuary mouth of the river, watering here into the Bay of Cadiz. On the left side you can see Monte Gordo, one of the most popular tourist centres in this area.

Ilha da Armona
The island is situated to the east of Ilha da Culatra, which you can see in the backgrond. The little habitation and a campign ground are located at the western corner of the Ilha da Armona and can be accessed by ferry boat only. The popular beach Praia da Armona-Mar is on the sea side behind the settlement.

On the left side you can see the small harbour and the landing stage of for the ferry boat. On the opposite side the small sandy stripe of the sea side beach Praia da Culatra-Mar comes into view.
Ilha da Culatra
The island is located in the Ria Formosa opposite Olhão between the islands Ilha da Barreta in the west and Ilha da Armona. The beaches of Praia do Farol, Praia de Hangares and Praia da Culatra-Mar can be reached from the mainland only by a ferry.

Ria de Armação: Salgados
The bay "Ria de Armação" is situated between Galé and the tourist centre Armação de Pêra. The salt marshes provide a refuge for many bird species, and the flat sandy beach, protected by dunes, stretches over several miles. In the background you can see the Salgados golf couse with its unique design.

Praia do Alvor Poente
Alvor has evolved to on of the most popular holiday destinations of the Algarve. The western part of the beach of Alvor stretches along the bay "Ria de Alvor" until the beach Meia Praia near Lagos. At the right side you can see the rock formations of the beach "Tres Irmãos".

Cabo de São Vicente, Sagres
Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St.Vincent) near Sagres in Portugal and the Ponta de Sagres together form the south-western corner of the European continent. The cape consists of a steep cliff of about 69 m with almost no vegetation.

On the surrounding cliffs, beaten by the strength of the vast Atlantic, local fishermen risk their lives wedged on dramatic perches with the thundering sea below. Year by year some of them, as well as some imprudent tourists, meet their death here.

View from the Cabo de São Vicente to the west along the coast "Costa Vicentina". The cliffs of this part of the coast are much steeper, and the surf of the Atlantic Ocean is significantly rougher than on the Algarve's south coast.
Costa Vicentina: Torre de Aspa
View from the Torre de Aspa to northern direction towards the Costa Vicentina with the beaches Praia da Cordoama and Praia do Castelejo. The Torre de Aspa (156 m) west of Vila do Bispo is the highest elevation of the Costa Vicentina, the almost untouched western coast of the Algarve. The way from Vila do Bispo through the heath is not easy to find, but the great views will compensate you for your efforts.
