The parish (freguesia) of Boliqueime in the municipality (concelho) of Loulé is situated between the A22 motorway and the national road EN125, adjacent to the municipality of Albufeira. The lower part situated on the EN125 is named Fonte de Boliqueime, and the town centre is at an elevated position around the church.

Due to its easy access, good infrastructure and proximity to Albufeira and Vilamoura, Boliqueime has evolved into a sought-after area to live in. The houses on top of the surrounding hills afford splendid views down to the sea.

A huge quarry is located east of Boliqueime, where yellow sandstone is excavated. For centuries this material has been typically used in regional construction work and also for artfully decorating the masonry of gateways, doors and windows.
