Sand Algarve: Vila Real d.S.A.
Vila Real de Santo António is the most eastern city of the Algarve, situated on the banks of the Guadiana river, the border to Spain. The so called "Sand Algarve" starts at the estuary mouth of the river, watering here into the Bay of Cadiz. On the left side you can see Monte Gordo, one of the most popular tourist centres in this area.

The square in the centre of the town has been named after the prime miniser of Portugal, who was responsible for the fast reconstruction of Vila Real d.S.A.

The houses around the square all have the same size and scope. Together with the rectangular pattern of the streets this was one of the measures to achieve a minimum construction time.
Castro Marim: Castle
The castle of Castro Marim has been erected in the 13. Century during the reign of king D. Afonso III to protect the harbour on the mouth of the Guadiana river. In 1920 it has been classified as National Monument.
