Caldas de Monchique is situated on the border of the hills of the Serra de Monchique, a short distance to the south of the village of Monchique on the national road EN266.
During Roman times Caldas de Monchique was well known for its warm sulfuric springs with an ambient temperature of 32°C. In the 19th Century it was a popular holiday destination with Portuguese nobility. Recently the area has been revitalized with the construction of new hotels and spas.
