Some days ago, we had the opportunity to join a tour in the rock salt mine on the outskirts of Loulé, organized by the Rotary Almancil International Club. Being still one of the best kept secrets in the Algarve even with locals, it was really worth the visit. The salt deposit has been discovered in the middle of the last Century during drillings for water to supply livestock farming in the surroundings of Loulé.

We are pleased to publish some fascinating photos of that underground tour at a depth of 230 m.
