| Peixe porco |
 |
| Peixe porco (Balistes capriscus), meaning “pig fish”, is how the Portuguese call the triggerfish, and it is quite an expert at cracking sea urchins and other echinoderms. The English name, on the other hand, derives from the trigger mechanism formed by three tough spines of the anterior dorsal fin. If these have snapped into an upright position, only pulling the smallest spine at the back can flatten them again. Provided with firm, tasty meat, this well-armoured species is one of the best fish the sea has to offer. |
