Picota, Serra de Monchique
The Picota is the second largest elevation in the Serra de Monchique. Outside the hot summer months the area invites to hike and to detect unknown parts of the Algarve.
Serra de Monchique: Foia
Fóia (902 m) is the highest elevation not only in the Serra de Monchique, but also in the whole of southern Portugal. The Serra’s mighty hills are visible from afar. The scarce vegetation of the peak plateau consists mainly of shrubs and various wild herbs. Upon arrival at the peak, you are amply rewarded with stunning views both to the Ocean and inland to the Alentejo.

Situated on a bend on the way to Monchique, just after Caldas de Monchique, the granite of the Serra de Monchique is a spectacular scenario. The rocks, which have been made smooth over millions of years, glimmer in tones of grey and white. A small mountain stream, the Ribeira do Lageado, makes its way across this impressive landscape.
