Access to the beach from the Rua 5 de Outubro, the main shopping street in the old part of the town, is via a tunnel, which gives it’s name to the beach “Praia do Túnel”.

This square is situated right on the fishermen’s beach (Praia dos Pescadores). The small hall in the middle of the square was formerly the fish market. In the background you can see the stone walls of the well known fish & seafood restaurant La Ruína.

The Av. Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro, mainly visited by British tourists, is one of the busiest areas in Albufeira with manifold bars, restaurants, nightclubs, gift and souvenir shops. It leads from the Av. dos Descobrimentos down to the tourist complexes.

The four lane ring road north of the old town leads from Oura in the east to the marina in the west. Most larger hotels and apartment complexes, many shops and the administration centre are located on both sides.
