The beach is situated on the sea side of the Culatra island east of Tavira.

The well known beach is situated on the seaside of the island Ilha de Tavira opposite Pedras d'el Rei. It can be accessed by a ponton bridge and a narrow-gauge railway leading across the island.

The beach on the lagoon of the Ria Formosa is very popular with families with smaller kids because of its calm and flat water.
This is the place where the ferry boat to the Ilha da Armona and the beach Fuseta-Mar embark.

The beach opposite the village Fuseta on the seaside of the Armona island can be accessed by a ferry boat, commuting betrween the mainland and the Armona island.

Ilha da Culatra: Praia do Farol
The lighthouse (port. farol) marks the passage between the island and the neighbouring Ilha da Barreta, the only way through for boats to Faro. The light can be seen by afar at hight. This part of the island is also called "Ilha do Farol", and the name of the popular beach on the sea side is Praia do Farol.
Praia da Culatra-Mar
The infrastructure of the lonely beach on the sea side is simple. A boardwalk leads from the quay at the lagoon across the island.

The quay at the promenade opposite the Arco da Porta Nova, one of the doorways to the historical old town, is the place to embark to the tours in the Ria Formosa.

A bordwalk is leading from the landing stage for the ferry boats from Faro to the beach restaurant and the beach.
Ilha Deserta (Ilha da Barreta)
View to western direction along the beach of the Ilha da Barreta. The southernmost point of continental Portugal is only 1,5 km away. The sandy beach disposes of an excellent infrastructure and a huge area to experience unspoilt nature.
