The "Volta ao Algarve" is the most important cycling event in Portugal. It will take place already for the 43st. time in 2017. The race, part of the UCI Europe Tour, is used by many professional teams to prepare for the racing season.
Stages:
- Stage 1: Albufeira – Lagos
- Stage 2: Lagoa – Fóia (Monchique)
- Stage 3: Sagres – Sagres (ITT)
- Stage 4: Almodôvar – Tavira
- Stage 5: Loulé – Malhão
The tour will end in the Serra de Caldeirão north of Loule at the Alto do Malhão. The Buddhist sanctuary there is a popular stage for mountain bikers. This year the award ceremony of the Algarve Granfondo, a long distance race for hobby bicyclists starting and ending in the centre of Loulé, will take place there the same day, so that a huge crowd of enthusiastic spectators can be expected.
