Semana do Chocolate Loulé
This year, the annual chocolate fair takes place in the historical market hall of Loulé from February 09 to 17, 2019
The origin of the chocolate goes back to Pre-Columbian civilisations in central America, who prepared chocolate beverages from the seeds of the cacao trees. The first cacao beans were brought to Europe by Christopher Columbus, but only by the middle of the 16. Century chocolate was served as a delicacy at the Spanish Court, and more than hundred years later the first chocolate café was opened in London.
