Santa Barbara de Nexe is a little village in the district of Faro, situated between Loulé and Estoi a few kilometres above the A22 motorway. It provides excellent views to the lowlands between Faro and Olhão, the Ria Formosa and the sea and is therefore one of the most sought-after areas for those looking to make the Algarve their second home.
The parish church (Igreja Matriz) in the centre of the village was erected during the 15th century and boasts typical Manueline details, a Portuguese peculiarity of the late gothic.
