Picturesque village in the Serra |
|
Alte, found in the municipality of Loulé between the Serra de Monchique and the Serra do Caldeirão, is said to be the most typical and unspoilt village in the whole Algarve
Alte is surrounded by a fertile countryside along the Ribeira de Alte creek and is a popular destination for excursions. Places of interest are the ruin of the Moorish castle, conquered in 1248 by Dom Paio Peres Correia, and the Igreja Matriz with a Manueline altar. The Nossa Senhora de Lurdes chapel is decorated with rare Sevillean tiles from the 16th. Century.
Two fountains, shadowed by old trees, the Fonte Pequena and the Fonte Grande, are an invitation for you to rest at one of the stone tables. |
