Designed by William Mitchell from USA and opened in 1974, the Quinta do Lago course has been the venue for eight Portuguese Open Championships and has hosted many other important professional and amateur championships.
The favourite of many tour players, this course offers the possibility to hit the greens in regulation in several ways. However, each hole has one easy route and the player who has the skill to follow the designer’s intention can produce sub-par figures.
The terrain is based on sandy Algarve soil covered with pine trees, heather, broom and many beautiful wild flowers. It is gently undulating and several lakes feature in the play. The layout provides a test for players of all ability levels – the sign of a great golf course.
