The Monte Rei Golf Club is set in the pituresque foothills of the Eastern Algarve, with sweeping views to the Serra de Caldeirao mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.
Faced with this remarkable, unspoild landscape and immediately aware of the potential and challenge it offered, Jack Nicklaus grasped the opportunity to become involved with the development of Monte Rei and to design his trademark Signature Golg Course, the first such course in Portugal and one of very few in Europe.
The par 72 championship course, built to USGA specifications, is a truely unique design, meandering over 70 hectars of gently rolling hills and valleys. With water coming into play on eleven on the eightenn holes, the course features a testing series of eight par-4s, five par-3s and five par-5s in a challenging and distinctive layout. |
