A rich choice of local shellfish

Whether plucked from rocky shores, cultivated in farms or caught in ingenious cages the Algarve has an excellent choice of shellfish for the connoisseur. Using ingredients ranging from the bizarre goose barnacle to the humble clam, the Algarve offers a wealth of shellfish recipes, including its most famous dish: “cataplana”.
