One may deem bath salt therapies and treatments not more than a fashionable trend, but they indisputably owe their success to the clearly positive effects of seawater applied to the human body. This was already appreciated in ancient times, when Greeks and Romans knew numerous types of salt-based therapeutic treatments: Hippocrates, the famous physician, for instance, used sea salt wraps and salt water treatments to cure injuries and irritations of the skin as well as arthritic and rheumatic diseases. He also found that besides restricting infection risks, the use of seawater brought pain relief to his patients.
Today, physicians, therapists and estheticians are rediscovering this long forgotten knowledge and consequently, sea salt and seawater therapies are administered at clinics, spas, health and beauty centres all over the world. Thalassotherapy – the application of warm seawater, is regarded as an effective treatment, allowing the uptake of minerals such as Magnesium and Potassium through the skin, regeneratively acting on the cells and actively elimininating toxins. Inhaling vaporized seawater, or sea salt dissolved in water, is known to have a soothing and rejuvenating effect on the mucosal tissues of the respiratory tract.
To complete the picture, patients with psoriasis, eczema and other skin diseases report significant improvement of their conditions after taking seawater baths on a regular basis. It may therefore be recommendable to give it a try and prepare a thalassotherapy bath at home, whether you are suffering from any of these conditions or just looking for a natural way to regenerate your skin and relax your soul.

Thalassotherapy bath at home:
Draw a warm bath (37-40 °C) and add 35 grams of MARISOL sea salt per litre. For a full bathtub, you will need 2.8 to 3.5 kilograms depending on the tub´s size. Stir gently until the salt has dissolved (you may find a bit of baking soda useful to promote the process), then make yourself comfortable and soak for 20-30 minutes. Do not rinse when finished – just pat dry and wrap in a bath robe. You will feel relaxed and refreshed. |
