The Algarve coast extends over 150 km from the Spanish border in the east to the Costa Vicentina in the west. More than 70% of the coast is protected nature reserves, which play host to large numbers of migrating birds in spring and autumn.
The pattern of the coast differs significantly as you go along it. In the Eastern Algarve dunes and lagoons dominate the scenario. The beaches of the Central Algarve are sheltered by picturesque cliffs and the Western Algarve offers views of dramatic rocks, hidden creeks and caves formed by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. |
