District of Olhão: Moncarapacho |
|
Moncarapacho is the northernmost village in the district of Olhão. In its centre, almost untouched by tourism, the houses are grouped around the parish church (Igreja Matriz). Every first Sunday of the month the large square at the western entrance to the village is host to a very popular market, and it is also quite busy during carnival celebrations.
The peaceful little square next to the parish church is an invitation for you to rest for a while. Visitors should visit the nearby chapel of Santo Cristo and the adjacent museum “Museu Paroquial” which has archaeological findings, sacral objects and articles of daily use, which have been collected in the region.
The Vila Monte exclusive holiday resort is to be found just a few miles north of the village. It was formerly the home of a German painter, who originally called it Adolfo da Quinta. |
