The peninsular of Cacela Ria Formosa, Eastern Algarve |
The Cacela peninsula located between Quinta da Ria golf course and Manta Rota is the eastern end of a chain of islands of the Ria Formosa, which protect this unique lagoon system from the rough Atlantic Ocean. |
The Cacela peninsula is the last link in the chain of islands of the Ria Formosa opposite the coast between Faro in the West and Cacela Velha in the East. The beach Praia de Cacela Velha is accessible on foot from Manta Rota, but it is more common to take the boat trip from Sitio da Fábrica in Cacela Velha. There is no docking area or facilities on the peninsula, so that you can enjoy nature undisturbed.
No cars are permitted in the picturesque little village of Cacela Velha and there is an area for visitors to leave their vehicles at the entrance of the village. From the small fortress Forte D. Paio Peres Correia great views can be enjoyed over the Ria Formosa. |
