Situated in the heart of the western Algarve between the municipalities of Portimão and Silves, the municipality of Lagoa presently occupies an area of 89 Km2 in which 6 parishes, five villages and one city can be found, and, according to the 2001 census, approximately 20.600 inhabitants.
It is a municipality full of contrasts and a wide range of scenery including a small inland area and a coastline of approximately 17 Km in length.
The natural potential of the region has made a profound contribution to the present economic structure which is based on the following activities: farming, fishing, small industry and tourism. |
