São Lourenço Trail goes along the southern border of the golf course San Lorenzo through the western extension of the Ria Formosa |
|
The trail starts at the large parking area at Quinta do Lago beach near the wooden pedestrian bridge over the Ria Formosa lagoon to the beach. It goes to the east along the San Lorenzo golf course, and attention for stray golf balls is highly recommended. At high tide the first part of the trail may be under water.
After a while you arrive at the large artificial lake of the San Lorenzo golf course, a paradise for many bird species, where you can also observe two kinds of turtles, living among the canes.
At the end of the trail some ruins are visible of the facilities used by the Romans to preserve fish by salting it and to produce a delicacy named “garum” , made of fish, mollusks and local herbs. |
