Rota Vicentina Fishermen's Trail
Single track along the spectacular western coast of the Algarve and the lower Alentejo from Lagos to S. Toprpes near Sines
Rota Vicentina
Rota Vicentina is a network of walking trails in the south-western area of Portugal, totalling 400 km to walk, along the most beautiful and best preserved coastline of Southern Europe. Comprising the Historical Way, the Fishermen’s Trail and several Circular Routes, proposes a unique experience of two worlds, between a living and authentic rural culture and a surprisingly wild coastline – fully within the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina.
Fishermen's Trail (Trilho dos Pescadores)
Always running along the coastline, it follows the trails used by locals to get to the beaches and hot fishing spots. It is a single track along the cliffs with plenty of sand, which can only be used by foot. The permanent contact with the ocean winds, the harsh coastal scenery and the wild and powerful natural landscape are challenging the hiker on this physically demanding track.
The trail with a length of 120 km consists of 4 sectors in the Alentejo:
- Odeceixe – Zambujeira do Mar (18 km)
- Zambujeira do Mar – Almograve (22 km)
- Almograve – Vila Nova de Milfontes (15 km)
- Vila Nova de Milfontes – Porto Covo (20 km)
and 5 additional circuits in the Algarve:
- Praia do Telheiro (6 km)
- Pontal da Carrapateira (10 km)
- Ponta da Atalaia (14 km)
- Praia da Amoreira (6 km)
- Praia de Odeceixe (9 km)
