Dom Pedro Pinhal Course
18holes golf course in Vilamoura
Location and access
The golf course Dom Pedro Pinhal is situated in the heart of the golf and holiday resort of Vilamoura in an undulating landscape covered with umbrella pines. From the entry to the resort on the national road EN125 between Almancil and Boliqueime it is only a two kilometre drive, and less than 10 kilometres from exit 11 of the A22 motorway.
Golf course
This was the second golf course built in Vilamoura and was inaugurated in 1976, having originally been designed by Frank Pennink, the architect of the nearby Vilamoura Old Course. Several refinements have been incorporated over the years, the most significant one by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1985. As a result, different styles are apparent in the layout. The first nine holes wind through umbrella pine woods while the back nine, goes gently uphill, covering terrain that opens up to afford magnificent sea views.
The course is typified by rolling parkland terrain covered with numerous umbrella and Atlantic pines that line many of the fairways and a few even stand out on fairways or near greens. Ponds and a stream come into play on five holes but are not serious threats to the above average golfer. To keep up with modern technical advances in clubs and balls, several holes have recently been lengthened and the par-72 course now measures 6,353 metres off the white tee markers.
Services & facilities
The clubhouse was completely renovated and modernised at the turn of the millennium and from the large veranda one can enjoy a panoramic view over the excellent driving range and practice facilities.
Noteworthy
Since the opening of the Old Course in the late 1960’s Vilamoura has helped to establish the legendary image of the Algarve as one of Europe’s leading golf destinations with a strong commitment to protect the natural environment. With the inauguration of the Victoria Course in 2004 Vilamoura offers five great 18-holes courses each with its own essential character.
