Silves: Catedral Sé

The cathedral of Silves was erected as seat of the first bishop of the Algarve after the final re-conquest of the city in 1242 by King Afonso III

The cathedral (pt. "") of Silves, erected in the 13. Century after the reconquest of the Algarve by King Afonso III, is said to be the most important sample of the Gothic architecture in the Algarve. Since 1922 it is classified as "monumento nacional", i.e. national monument.  It was the seat of the bishop of the Algarve until 1577, when the episcopal seat was moved to Faro due to the decreasing importance of the city of Silves.
