Manta Rota is a small bathing resort on the coast of the eastern Algarve (Sotavento) between Cacela Velha and Monte Gordo.
It is situated on the eastern end of the lagoon landscape of the Ria Formosa and the Peninsula de Cacela. The flat sandy beach is part of the coastal strip stretching for over 10 kilometres from the mouth of the river Guadiana in the east to Cacela Velha.
This part of the coast of the eastern Algarve with its long sandy beaches and dunes is one of the warmest regions of continental Portugal. The climate is strongly influenced by winds from an easterly direction leading to water temperatures of up to 28 °C.
The beach Praia de Cacela on the peninsula, which is popular with nudists, is an ideal place to hike and to observe the local flora and fauna.
Four golf courses are located nearby: Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima on the coast and Benamor and Monte Rei inland.
