Altura is a parish (freguesia) in the municipality (concelho) of Castro Marim in the district of Faro (Algarve). Until 1993 it was part of the parish of Castro Marim.
Altura is situated on the coast of the Eastern Algarve in the bay of Monte Gordo between the better known holiday destinations Monte Gordo and Manta Rota. The tourist development situated directly on the coast is called Praia da Alagoa, the older part with the name Altura is located on the EN125.
Large and flat sandy beaches stretch for many miles along the bay of Monte Gordo, one of the finest being Praia Verde in front of a beautiful holiday resort east of Altura.
