Porches is a village (vila) and parish (freguesia) in the municipality (concelho) of Lagoa in the district of Faro (Algarve).

The village is situated on the national road EN125 between Alcantarilha and Lagoa. The surrounding area is known for its viniculture and for numerous potteries (olarias), where the clay found in the area is used to produce artistic pottery and painted tiles (azulejos).

In the centre of the village the older houses cluster around the elevated church.  This was built in 1882 on the foundations of an older one which was destroyed during the earthquake of 1755.  Take a step back in time when exploring the narrow streets.

The village was only populated in the 16th Century, the older settlement, now called Porches Velho was located closer to the coast. The first evidence of human occupation in this area dates back to Prehistoric Times: a menhir from the Neolithic period (5-4.000 B.C.) found nearby is now on display in the front garden of the convent Convento de Sao José in Lagoa.

The rocky coast between Armação de Pêra and Carvoeiro is especially fascinating. Dramatic rock formations with hidden grottoes and caves, broken up with sandy bays and protected beaches dominate the scenery. A place of special interest is the little chapel Nossa Senhora da Rocha, situated on a narrow cliff.

The international school at Porches on the EN125 is one of the best facilities of its kind in the Algarve.
