Luz is a parish (freguesia) in the municipality (concelho) of Lagos. It was raised to a village (vila) status in 2001.

The village is better known by the name of its beach Praia da Luz especially by holiday makers from UK and Ireland.

Directly on the coast near the church you can find the little fortress Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Luz which has now been converted into a popular restaurant. The nicely paved promenade Avenida dos Pescadores separates the beach from the village. The long sandy beach is very popular and has excellent facilities. At its eastern end the foundations of a Roman building were found and excavated (Estação Arqueológica Romana da Praia da Luz) during some construction work.

Two attractive golf courses are situated in the surroundings of Luz: Boavista Golf on the coast with marvellous views to the bay at Lagos and Espiche Golf a few kilometres inland.
