The Algarve Cup is a global invitational tournament for national teams in women’s football (soccer). The Algarve Cup is a global invitational tournament for national teams in women’s football (soccer). Held annually in the Algarve region of Portugal since 1994, it is one of the most prestigious women’s football events. Due to various qualification games for the Olympic Football Tournament this year the list of participating teams is reduced to eight with Brazil being the only one ranked in the FIFA Top Ten. Brazil and Canada are already qualified for the Olympic Games 2016. This year Vila Real de Santo António was the venue of the final between these two top teams with Canada defeating Brazil by 2:1.
