Fishermen’s huts in the Ria Formosa

The cottages on the lagoon of the Ria Formosa between the Faro Airport and the Ilha de Faro have been destroyed

At the beginning of 2015 many illegally erected huts on the islands of the Ria Formosa have been destroyed, followed by heavy protest of the users and large media interest with the objective to stop the housing sprawl of this unique ecological system. When walking our dogs along Faro Airport we realized that also several huts along the waterfront on the mainland opposite the Ilha de Faro had been hit. They had been used by locals not only to store their tools for fishing and picking up mussels, but also had been a popular place for a BBQ in the summer time.
